Trade and handicrafts
Surrounded by beauty and in good intentions, just go on walking. There is something here you were just looking for – traditional handicrafts that remind us of the past. The tradition of making opanak – a Serbian peasant footwear – goes back to old times, so that Vrnjci got their name after this handicraft. The legend says that the Greek cattle breeders used to dwell on the mountain Goch and make footwear of untanned hides in Middle Age. The most important part of making this shoe, forerunner to the opanak, was called “vrnchanje”, so that the people who were doing it were called Vrnjchani, and the place Vrnjci. In the Spa you can see the biggest opanak in the world. It got into the Guiness Book of Records, and it was made of ten ox hides by the shoemaker Slavko. The opanak is 3.2m long, which corresponds to the shoe size 450.
Modern shopping centers and boutiques are the right place for those who love the nice and the good.
Over the last decade Vrnjci Spa has become the real little fashion center of Serbia. In specialized manufacturer’s boutiques you can buy goods at reasonable prices.
On the green market of Vrnjci, even the choosiest ones will find abundance of fruit of Western Morava valley throughout the year, as well as the famous Goch cheese and kajmak.
